Olympian, or Doctor …….
….. as it turns out, SDR Team Lead!
Tune in for Episode 6 of The Sporting Transition Podcast, where I had the joy of speaking with Sophie Evans about her journey from Aquatics GB swimming squad to SDR Team Lead, with a detour via medicine!
Here are my takeaways:
1️⃣ We often talk about sacrifices athletes need to make, but we don’t always consider the missed opportunities. In Sophie’s case, having to decide whether to study medicine or go all in on swimming – knowing both would be tough.
2️⃣ Start them young! I’ve not yet had a guest who hasn’t fallen in love with sport at a young age.
3️⃣ Supportive parents are at the cornerstone of every major decision.
4️⃣ Medicine, whilst rewarding, didn’t fill the void of Sophie’s competitiveness.
5️⃣ Enter a career in sales! Not a decision taken lightly, and with some insider insights from Tom Allen, Sophie took the big – and well considered – decision to embark on a career in sales.
6️⃣ No regrets!
A massive thank you to Sophie Evans for taking the time out to share her story.
