🗣 “I cared about scalable career paths, where you could grow and develop on merit” – Angus Gilmour, CEO & Founder of Athlete Origin, on why he chose a career in sales 🚀
📻 Tune in to Episode 3 of The Sporting Transition Podcast to find out directly from my next guest – Angus Gilmour – why his own sporting transition took him from international badminton to a career in sales, and eventually, leading him to launch Athlete Origin to help athletes complete their own transition into a rewarding career in tech sales in the UK & East Coast of America.
When I launched The Sporting Transition Podcast, Angus came to mind immediately as a guest who had transitioned into becoming someone who places athletes into sales careers, having launched his own recruitment company – Athlete Origin.
I was a hiring manager, wanting to hire ex elite athletes and Angus was my gateway to tapping into a talent pool that I’d struggled to gain access to.
Top 5 reasons why Angus opted for a career in sales, and what he sees in the candidates he places;
1️⃣ Grow on merit – you aren’t held back by anything other than your own desire to succeed. 🎖
2️⃣ Consistency is king – and a deep rooted quality of athletes. 🤖
3️⃣ Earn well – often uncapped. More success, means more earnings. 💸
4️⃣ Highs … and lows. The rollercoaster of sales is no different to the rollercoaster of sport! It’s kind of addictive. 🎢
5️⃣ Progress quickly. Tech companies are growing fast, so this has been a good playground for those who want to progress quickly 🏋♂️
